The interpreter, a longtime friend of Ohtani’s named Ippei Mizuhara, allegedly stole vast sums of money from a bank account established in Ohtani’s name. Mizuhara had unique access to Ohtani’s bank account, authorities say, because it was he who helped Ohtani create it in the first place in 2018 — which put him in a privileged position to take advantage of his client. Password managers help you generate and keep track of complex, secure passwords that aren’t easily guessed or cracked. And many password managers are also transitioning to support passkeys. This is another area where password managers can come in handy.

CNN —Tens of thousands of Americans had trouble making phone calls, sending texts, reaching emergency services or even accessing the internet on Thursday because of a nearly 12-hour AT&T network outage. The alarm over an outage of a major cell network that at one point affected more than 70,000 customers is understandable. AT&T finally restored wireless service to all customers by around 3 pm ET, and the company said it was “sincerely” sorry to customers. But starting early Thursday morning, thousands of AT&T customers began reporting issues calling, texting and accessing the internet on their mobile devices. At one point, more than 74,000 AT&T customers reported outages on digital-service tracking site DownDetector.

Why this tech is better than passwords, and how to switch

There's a safer way to log in to apps and websites that removes the need to use passwords. The move toward passkeys comes as our digital privacy gets harder to protect, particularly as people need to remember more and more passwords. A recent Pew Research survey showed that almost 70% of Americans are stressed about the number of passwords they need to remember. Bottom line: Passkeys are better than passwords at protecting your personal information. I created the passkeys using my iPhone, but you can do it from a computer or Android phone by following similar steps.

My mother died in 2021, and my father passed away in 2023, both in their 90s with long lives and, thankfully, gentle passings. Because of that planning, wrapping up my mother's financial affairs after her death only took a few months. We did everything rightActing as their power of attorney, I managed my parents' financial planning for several years before their deaths, including placing most of their assets into irrevocable trusts. What I've learned about handling a second parent's estateOther than hiring someone else to handle your deceased parent's affairs, there's no easy way to wrap up financial affairs after both your parents are gone. LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) - BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) has told London-based staff it will track their entry-gate swipes against logins to the bank's computer network to ensure employees meet targets for working from the office, a staff memo seen by Reuters shows. BNP employs more 4,500 people in Britain, with London regarded as its "second headquarters" after Paris, according to its website. BNP's memo, presented in the format of a Q&A, said staff would not be able to opt out of the tracking. The bank's USA & Canada divisions have also updated their policy to include "visibility into in-office presence of staff monitoring". While it sympathised with staff whose commutes were impeded by adverse weather or industrial action affecting London's public transport systems, the memo advised staff those days would still count as "in office" working days.

The student-loan payment pause is over, and some borrowers are facing problems with repayment. "You remain responsible for making your monthly payments." AdvertisementAdvertisementAfter more than three years, the pause on federal student-loan payments ended on Friday — interest started accruing again on September 1, and borrowers will face monthly bills again beginning in October. Still, there's a chance relief could come for borrowers who have been making payments on income-driven repayment plans. But for borrowers like Hunter who are struggling to get answers from their servicer, it's unclear what improvements can be made.

Google said in May that, starting in December, it would begin purging inactive accounts, a warning sign of sorts to people who use multiple logins. "I'm of the mind that email subject lines should be explicitly clear, especially if a consequence is attached to a customer's inaction," she wrote. Users commonly maintain multiple accounts, allowing them to use different email addresses for different purposes, and to store online photos and documents in separate places. But for Google, storage space on free accounts is a cost. The new policy doesn't apply to schools or businesses using Google accounts.

NEW DELHI, July 27 (Reuters) - Walt Disney's (DIS.N) India streaming service plans to start enforcing a policy of allowing its premium users to login from only four devices, an effort aimed at limiting password sharing in a key market, two sources with direct knowledge said. In India, a premium account of Disney+ Hotstar streaming service still allows logins on as many as 10 devices, even though its website currently says "number of devices that can be logged in" is four. Industry data says Hotstar is market leader in terms of users with approximately 50 million. The new planned restriction will also apply to its cheaper plan which will limit usage across two devices, the second source added. Disney's Hotstar topped India's streaming market between January 2022 and March 2023 with a 38% share of viewership, while rivals Netflix and Prime Video held 5% each, data from research firm Media Partners Asia showed.

14 million student-loan borrowers could resume payments under a new servicer, the CFPB said in a new report. It could "complicate" the repayment process due to confusion on where the debt is owed, per the report. According to the report, 44%, or 14 million, student-loan borrowers in the bureau's sample will have their loans managed by at least one new student-loan company when payments resume, which could "complicate" the process. Additionally, the bureau found that about one in five borrowers in its sample have "risk factors" that suggest they could struggle when payments resume. "I'm in this limbo period not really knowing what's going on with my student loans," he said.

Despite their ease of use, passwords come with significant downsides: More than 80% of data breaches are the result of weak passwords. In 2004, Bill Gates famously envisioned the death of traditional passwords, and there have been several attempts to replace them. That's great if all of your devices are from one company — your Apple passkey would work across an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Google said the move is a safety measure to prevent unused accounts from being hacked. But many Gmail users have records still of value, even if they may not log in to access them regularly. To preserve old data, Google also suggested measures like moving the account's contents using its "Takeout" feature, or emailing out valuable information and data to other active accounts. Earlier this month, Elon Musk said that unused Twitter accounts could be erased (though he also added they'd be archived). The move prompted criticism, including from those who'd hoped to preserve the Twitter accounts of deceased loved ones.
